WordPress’s Daily Prompt

8 Nov

WordPress does a lot for its bloggers. One of the things they do often is the daily prompt. I usually ignore these, but today I just felt the need to write – about anything.

Here’s today’s challenge: http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/11/08/daily-prompt-connection-2/ (translated: find an uninteresting story in the news and talk about how it relates to you).

The story I found was on CNN about cats. The question was, “Why do cats groom humans?” Many of my friends love cats and would be fully vested in this story. I, however, dislike cats greatly and would rather they did not lick me.

The story summarized that cats lick their owners as a sign of affection. As the mother cat licks her young, the cat in general will say “I love you” with scratchy little kisses. They may nibble on fingertips as they lick; this is also a sign of love. The mother cat nips at her young ones to remove dirt from the hair.

This story relates directly to my life recently as a mother. I have been very loving toward my children but I have also been faster to bite, too. My children have been denying bedtime then suffering the next day. After watching their suffering for more than one day, I finally lost it as a mother, and I bit after being loving.

I buckled down on bedtime. I gave them an early bedtime to give them time to unwind in their beds. I hand out severe punishments for anyone who comes down the stairs after their designated quiet time.

My recent behavior is much like the cat grooming the human. I give out love gently then use tough love when I deem it necessary. The cat gives gentle kisses, handing out bites when it deems necessary. This uninteresting news story isn’t so boring after all.
