For the Military Siblings

10 Oct

This blog post was inspired by the following:

Here’s to You, the Military Sibling

The one who waits up until the wee hours of the night for a Facebook message so your mom and dad can sleep.

The one who never watches the news.

The one who listens to the things your mom can’t hear.

The one who beats around the bush because you’re never quite sure what you can discuss.

The one who takes pictures of family to send away.

The one who waits next to the military wife at the airport, if you can make it there.

The one who has to keep Mom and Dad calm when there is no contact for a few days due to changing orders or moving troops.

The one who has to be the shoulder.

To you, the one who holds back the tears when you just want to cry out for your sibling’s pain.

To you, who smiles through the tears on the phone.

To you, who runs to the other room to cry when your kid brother or sister announces orders to go to some of the most dangerous places in the world. You do this because you know they need you to be strong, because Mom and Dad are a wreck.

To you, who misses your nieces and nephews fiercely but resorts to stalking them on social networking sites.

To you, fellow military sibling, who would take your nieces and nephews if necessary because your military sibling has been called overseas.

To you, military sibling, and to all you do behind the scenes to keep your military families together.
