Review of La Tourelle Spa and Resort – Ithaca NY

18 Jul

My husband and I got away from the kids this weekend. We took an overnight vacation to the Finger Lakes. We stayed in Ithaca NY, at a spa and resort near Ithaca College. The long driveway led to grounds set deep from the busy road, so we weren’t bothered by the sometimes unpredictable routine of a college based town.

The sun shining over the building

The front path of the building was decorated with rustic statues. The trees were woven with string lights and there were potted plants along the walk. The lobby was filled with leather upholstered chairs, and when we arrived, we were greeted by the nightly complimentary wine tasting. There was complimentary water, coffee, and tea available all day. The hallway was carpeted with a plush, noise reducing cloth.

The room itself was beyond what I had expected. The floor was a finished wood floor. The fireplace was simple, with a constant pilot light. We only had to flip a light switch to ignite the wood. The king size bed included a feather top mattress. The coffee pot/refrigerator combination was stashed away in the closet, to keep the room classy. There was a foot chest at the bottom of the bed, and an area rug underneath the bed. Best of all, to my pure delight, was a wall of books in the room.

The founder of the hotel lived for the written word, so he was after my own heart. Instead of finding a chocolate on our pillow, we found a written pamphlet discussing his love for books and a copy of the short story authored by him. I found this to be a unique touch to the resort experience.

We explored the balcony, which was perfectly cozy for the two of us. The view from the balcony made up for its size, because it was massively impressive.

Sunset off the balcony

We explored the grounds in the morning, and they were magnificent. There were two ponds and many paths wandering through the woods. One path lead into Buttermilk State Park, which is home to its own breathtaking waterfalls and hiking adventures. We found this piece of heaven while wandering through the wooded area on the grounds:

We also found a giant chessboard near the tennis courts. The resort offered two days of fun for two nature lovers who needed a getaway weekend.

We highly recommend this resort. We did not take advantage of the spa facilities, so please find a review of the spa here.
